hatedesign - Compact Discs and Jewel Case PackagingUtility has its place in design and the sonic advantages of CD are obvious. But, the long playing time lends itself to the backgrounding and diminishment of the content. The casing and CD grip generally fail to fulfil their basic job and are more easily damaged than vinyl records! Artwork reduced to tiny, joyless booklets.lovedesign - Vinyl Records and Their PackagingSure! imperfect sound, likely to accumulate damage with age; but the dropping of a needle on to the disc presaged an act of attention and concentration and the requirement to change sides 20 minutes in. As for the sleeve, here was a canvas that allowed a meaningful presentation of artwork inside and out.

hatedesign - Can Openers... there has to be a better way, than brute force, to get into a tin of beanslovedesign - My Meile Novotronic Premier Washing Machine…cost less then £20, is probably as old as me, is as ugly as sin, but I would cry if it ever died: testimony to its fantastic design.

hatedesign - Imperial Museum North - WayfindingWhile in its original form (see Love) the IWMN purposely disorientated and confused its visitors, since its opening signage and other visuals have been added that turn this into a traditional museum experience. Conventions replaced what made this museum special: the visitors doing their own thinking - experiencing the helplessness of war - and turned it into a run-of-the-mill museum housed in a landmark building.lovedesign - Imperial Museum North - (The Original Visitor ExperienceFabulous architecture that makes the visitor feel lost, disoriented and overwhelmed by bleakness. While objects of, and facts on, 20th century conflict are seamlessly integrated into the display, it is the experience of walking through the space that provides a personal meditation on conflict which makes this an exceptional museum.
